EVERY SIX HOURS HAVE BEEN SAFELY AND SUCCESSFULLY USED FOR OVER 40 YEARS AND 40,000 PATIENT HOURS. THIS HAS OFTEN INVOLVED LONG-TERM SUPPLEMENTATION FOR YEARS OR DECADES, GIVING DRAMATIC PATIENT BENEFIT, AND HAS PRODUCED NO OBSERVABLE LONG-TERM NEGATIVE EFFECTS AS IS COMMONLY SUPPOSED.<br /><br />&lsquo;CORTISOL IS A NORMAL HORMONE, ESSENTIAL FOR LIFE.&rsquo; - McCormack Jefferies<br />(In fact it is the only hormone you die without!)<br /><br />&lsquo;MOST PHYSICIANS TODAY ARE UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT&nbsp;ANY&nbsp;DOSAGE OF CORTISOL CAN PRODUCE SIDE EFFECTS THAT OCCUR WITH ANY EXCESSIVE DOSES.&rsquo; - McCormack Jefferies<br /><br />1. Most physicians and pharmacists do not appear to understand the safe uses of cortisol, and are biased against its use by outdated generalised information based on beliefs about other substances/glucocorticoids that are chemically similar to cortisol but not the same, such as prednisone, or cortisone, and/or based on &lsquo;pharmacologic&rsquo; dosages that are far above what can be termed safe low &lsquo;physiologic&rsquo; doses. After safe low physiologic doses are administered, patient peak blood cortisol levels still fall within normal physiological ranges.<br /><br />2. The&nbsp;cortisol&nbsp;that can be ordered in standard blood, urine, and saliva pathology tests is the same chemical as what is termed&nbsp;hydrocortisone&nbsp;which is sold under the brand name of&nbsp;Hysone&nbsp;in Australia, and can also be manufactured by compounding pharmacists. Hydrocortisone can therefore be defined as &lsquo;biodentical&rsquo;. Hydrocortisone is somewhat inappropriately named, as it does not have a ketone side chain as its last three letters &lsquo;one&rsquo;&nbsp;would suggest. Many years ago Cortisol was originally classified as&nbsp;Compound F&nbsp;in the early research work by Kendall, as distinct from Cortisone which was originally classified as&nbsp;Compound E.&nbsp;Cortisone must be turned into Cortisol in the body for it to have its full effect.<br /><br />3. Jefferies has used safe physiological dosage cortisol for over four decades, and has documented his findings as a summary of over 40,000 patient hours. As far as I can tell, despite multiple published papers in the medical literature, nobody has been able to refute his observations and recommendations.<br /><br />4. The original patent rights on cortisol and related natural compounds have expired. In order for new usage claims to be made about a drug new trials would have to be run. This would require funding. This would normally only come from drug companies. These companies are unlikely to fund research into usages of a drug which they cannot patent, as any other company could profit from their research and market their own equivalent product.<br /><br />5. Many different disease patterns have responded favourably to Jefferies low-dose physiological protocol of cortisol administration, sometimes in conjunction with other hormone supplementation. These include allergies, amenorrhoea, low stomach acid, low secretory IgA production, poor resistance to infection/frequent infection (poor immunity), infertility, tendency to miscarriage, inflammation, autoimmune thyroiditis, lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis.<br /><br />6. The negative effects from the gross heavy-handed pharmacologic dosages of the cortisone compounds that occurred in the early days of experimentation do not occur with safe low dose physiological cortisol, even when prolonged for decades. In addition, women who had previously miscarried repeatedly only managed to carry their pregnancy to full term when supplemented with cortisol, and no negative effects on mother or child have been observed in over 40 years and 40,000 patient hours. These negative side effects of high-pharmacologic doses of compounds that are in the same family as cortisol, include &lsquo;moon face&rsquo;, &lsquo;buffalo hump&rsquo;, shut-down of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis, osteoporosis, gastrointestinal ulcerations, and immune suppression.<br /><br />7. Many clinicians, even if they may begrudgingly be persuaded to prescribe low dose cortisol to a patient, are very reticent to do so, very nervous and cautious, and usually have the viewpoint that the client should not be allowed to remain on this dosage medium or long term. Many pharmacists share this belief. I believe this attitude should change. If a patient has a degree of under responsiveness of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis which is contributing to their health condition, then this can and perhaps often should be supplemented for as long as necessary, while every attempt is made to support the patient&rsquo;s body in eventually being able to produce adequate cortisol in response to various types of stressors. This may include nutritional, herbal, dietary, or other methods. Specific examples include vitamin C, B complex, Rehmannia, Licorice, Eleutherococcus, Withania, raw bovine or porcine adrenal, adrenal cortex, (and other) glandular extracts, and Iodine (which appears to influence steroid hormone receptor sensitivity).<br /><br />8. Jefferies points out that even if blood cortisol, ACTH, ACTH stimulation tests, and CRF stimulation tests all show as normal, then low-dose cortisol supplementation may still be indicated and is worth trialling. It appears that certain types of feedback to the hypothalamus can sometimes not result in an adequate response down the endocrine chain. Interleukin I feedback from monocytes has been shown to influence this process through its effect on the hypothalamus, as has the influenza virus. This connection between the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis and the immune system has been reported in medical literature since the 1980s.<br /><br />9. In the 1918 flu epidemic, many victims who were fatally affected were shown on autopsy to have exhausted their adrenal glands, which had ruptured, not from direct infection per se, but from trying to respond to the infection.<br /><br />10. It can happen that 8am blood cortisol and DHEA levels, and even supposed 24 hr urinary &lsquo;free&rsquo; cortisol tests can all appear in normal limits, yet saliva tests that show the amount of actual free hormone that is available to the body cells can be grossly deficient indicating that biodentical supplementation is likely to be required. Standard 8am blood cortisol or DHEA indicate the combined amount of both free and globulin-bound hormones. (Globulin-bound hormone is unavailable to the body cells.) Saliva cortisol or DHEA indicate the amount of free hormone available to the body cells. Salivary cortisol is usually tested at 6am, 12pm, 6pm, and 10pm in order to assess the diurnal pattern of cortisol production/cell availability. DHEA cortisol is usually tested at 6 am.<br /><br />11. Jefferies would use dosages of up to 40 mg/day, excepting in severe conditions requiring very strong short-term intervention. 40mg/day is the amount that&nbsp;in unstressed circumstances&nbsp;will temporarily shut down the endogenous production of cortisol by negative feedback to the pituitary gland. Dosages below this,&nbsp;in unstressed circumstances, result in only partial shut down of endogenous production, and when gradually reduced do not impair long-term or medium-term endogenous production.<br /><br />12. For the purposes of dosage comparisons, Prednisone is considered as four times stronger than cortisol. So a 20 mg/day dose of cortisol could be comparable to a 5 mg/day dose of prednisone.<br /><br />13. Typically, Jefferies patients would end up on maintenance dosages of 5 mg four times per day. This would often be increased during times of infectious stress/exposure (e.g. pre and post-operatively), or other periods of heightened stress, or if slightly higher dosages were needed to maintain symptom remission. Other common dosages were therefore 7.5 mg four times per day, 10 mg four times per day, and sometimes 2.5 mg four times per day. These dosages were administered with breakfast, lunch, dinner, and before bed. The dose before bed was taken with some light food or milk if it created any tummy upset (cortisol is a gastric acid stimulant).<br /><br />14. Some physicians have tried to follow the diurnal pattern by giving dosages of 12, 8, 4, and 1 mgs throughout the day. Some suggest omitting the evening dose. Taking such a small dose at bed time does not support the body in it&rsquo;s early morning rise towards the normally and ideally highest cortisol level of the day. This is when it is needed the most. Therefore the evening dose is essential, and should probably not be omitted, but may need to be tapered slightly if any sleeplessness results.<br /><br />15. Some authors have cautioned that stomach acid supplementation (with betaine hydrochloride for example) may need to be lowered or discontinued if cortisol supplementation is commenced. It can be observed that people with mild adrenal insufficiency often appear to have low stomach acid production also. These individuals may still need stomach acid supplementation however. In Australia direct measurement of stomach acid production seems to be a grossly underused diagnostic procedure. For more information read Lawrence Wight&rsquo;s work, including&nbsp;Why Stomach Acid is Good for You.<br /><br />16. Typically, Jefferies would attempt to lower the dose in stages over time. If symptoms returned then he would slightly increase the dose again. People would often remain supplemented for years or decades, with no ill effects, and certainly NONE of the ill effects reported during the early work using high pharmacologic dosages (as distinct from low physiologic dosages). Jefferies has noted that a typical scenario is that a physician attempts to remove cortisol supplementation far too quickly because of biased and incorrect education in this area, and the false belief that prolonged supplementation is always harmful no matter what the dosage (or which glucocorticoid is used!), instead of experimenting to find the safe physiologic dose that allows the patient to live free of their symptoms with no ill effects, even if supplementation is required for many decades and even through pregnancies.<br /><br />17. Jefferies noted, as have others, that it appears to take 2 weeks for full effect of the dosage that is being used to become apparent. It is important to consider this when finding the necessary dose. A cautious and patient attitude should be employed, beginning with small dosages, and making small changes followed by 2 week observation periods at each stage. Some physicians begin with 2.5 mg four times daily.<br /><br />18. Jefferies also noted and demonstrated the importance of dividing the dosages of the cortisol throughout the day. It is extremely important to understand that 20 mg of cortisol given once by mouth in the morning is very different in its effect than 5 mg given four times (once every 6 hours, or as close to this as is practical), even though the overall daily intake is the same in both cases. Three or four divided doses have been found to be most effective. Two divided doses has not. One is out of the question.<br /><br />19. Contrary to popular belief, cortisol given in safe low physiologic dosages is an immune stimulant. Jefferies has convincingly demonstrated this with graphs of immunoglobulin levels over time relative to supplemental cortisol, and also with case history reports and observations that repeatedly demonstrate the dramatically improved immunity to infection of those supplementing with safe low physiological doses of cortisol. To put it simply, people who used to get sick at the drop of a hat turned into the only people in the office who didn&rsquo;t catch the bug that laid everyone else up in bed for a week! To be cautious, he still would increase the dosage of cortisol during times of likely infection. This is in stark contrast to conventional conditioned thinking which is basically that &lsquo;cortisone suppresses the immune system&rsquo;.<br /><br />20. Apart from dramatically improved resistance to infection, the following effects are notable in people on safe low medium to long-term physiological dose cortisol supplementation: increased alertness, better digestion (return of desire for food!), more sustained energy levels/better endurance, better ability to concentrate, dramatic relief or remission of rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune disease, disappearance of chronic allergies, return of colour to the face - normalisation of low blood pressure, disappearance of postural hypotension (getting dizzy when you stand up quick!), and more stable blood sugar levels.<br /><br />21. Cortisol increases the conversion of T4 (thyroxine) to T3 (triiodothyronine) at the cell level, and so interrelationships between the adrenals and the thyroid glands must be considered. For further information on this area the book&nbsp;Your Thyroid and how to keep it healthy&nbsp;by Dr Barry Durrant-Peatfield is highly recommended. Here&rsquo;s a hint - supplement the adrenals first, and don&rsquo;t rely on blood tests for assessing thyroid function - test basal temperature and interview and assess the case based on signs and symptoms!<br /><br />22. Durrant-Peatfield lists the following signs and symptoms as indicating low thyroid function disorder:<br /><br />SYMPTOMS&nbsp;SIGNS<br />Weight Gain&nbsp;Reduced pulse pressure (difference between systolic and diastolic)<br />Lowered Body Temperature&nbsp;Slowed pulse<br />Lack of Energy&nbsp;Slowed reflexes (e.g. Achilles)(common to adrenal dysfunction also)<br />Fluid Retention&nbsp;Lab tests taken alone can be grossly and dangerously unreliable.<br />Chronic Constipation&nbsp;Lowered basal temperature<br />Nervous Disorders&nbsp;(taken upon waking under armpit - some recommend testing both armpits)<br />Loss of memory and thinking ability&nbsp;(to understand this in more detail refer to the work of Dr Broda Barnes)<br />Headaches<br />Skin troubles<br />Hair Loss<br />Changes in the Voice<br />Poor resistance to infection<br />Atherosclerosis<br />Anaemia<br />Loss of libido<br />Infertility<br />Effects on Menstruation, Childbirth and Postnatal Depression<br />Raynaud&rsquo;s phenomenon<br /><br />23. For more understanding of adrenal insufficiency that is not classic Addison&rsquo;s disease, the book&nbsp;Adrenal Fatigue&nbsp;by James L Wilson is recommended. Any condition that improves with low dose physiological supplementation of cortisol is very likely to have a component of adrenal fatigue involved with it! Mainstream medical syndrome classification does not usually include a category for adrenal insufficiency unless it is formally diagnosed as classic Addison&rsquo;s disease. This is a problem.<br /><br />24. Wilson lists the following symptoms and signs as indications of adrenal fatigue. Clinicians may find these useful in identifying adrenal fatigue in their patients.<br /><br />SYMPTOMS<br />Difficulty getting up in the morning.<br />Continuing fatigue not relieved by sleep<br />Craving for salt or salty foods<br />Lethargy (lack of energy)<br />Increased effort to do every day tasks<br />Decreased sex drive<br />Decreased ability to handle stress<br />Increased time to recover from illness, injury or trauma<br />Light-headed when standing up quickly<br />Mild Depression<br />Less enjoyment or happiness with life<br />Increased PMS<br />Symptoms increase if meals are skipped or inadequate<br />Thoughts less focused, more fuzzy<br />Memory less accurate<br />Decreased tolerance<br />Don&rsquo;t really wake up until 10am, afternoon low between 3 and 4 pm, feels better after evening meal<br />Decreased productivity<br /><br />SIGNS<br />On exposure to a light source the iris of the eye contracts, but then it oscillates wider and narrower instead of holding a stable increased tone. In severe cases it hardly responds at all.<br />Low blood pressure and postural low blood pressure - pressure drops on standing up from lying down - this is known as Raglan&rsquo;s sign, and getting dizzy when you stand up quick is called postural hypotension.<br />Sergent&rsquo;s White Line (present in about 40% of people with adrenal fatigue)<br />- with the dull end of ballpoint pen lightly stroke the skin of abdomen - within few seconds a reddened line should appear<br />- if it stays white for about 2 minutes and widens you probably have adrenal fatigue!<br />Lab tests taken alone can be grossly and dangerously unreliable and misinterpreted.<br /><br />25. Supplementation with DHEA, 7-keto DHEA, or other hormones may be indicated concurrently in cases of adrenal insufficiency.<br /><br />26. Jefferies used cortisone acetate for some time, but reached the conclusion over the decades that it was far better to use the biodentical cortisol (hydrocortisone).<br />&#8203;<br />27. The area of leg length discrepancy is quite controversial, with differing beliefs and approaches from practitioners of different modalities who have received different trainings. I hope this brief document is found useful.</span></div>  <div>  <!--BLOG_SUMMARY_END--></div>  <div class="paragraph">&#8203;2.&nbsp;<font size="3"><font size="3">Some LLDs can be caused by structural differences in the lengths/vertical dimensions of bones. These are called true LLDs. Some LLDs can be caused by dysfunctions in joints and their associated soft tissues, and misalignment of bones. These are called false or functional LLDs. It is important to differentiate between true and false LLDs.</font></font>&#8203;<br /><br /><font size="3"><font size="3">3. In addition leg lengths can be assessed in standing, sitting, and lying prone and supine.</font></font><br /><br /><font size="3"><font size="3">4. Another more in-depth document will be forthcoming that goes more into different methods of LLD assessment, as well as treatment, common errors and misunderstandings.</font></font><br /><br /><font size="3"><strong>5. PRACTICAL BACKGROUND BASICS</strong></font><ol><li><font size="3">Find level area of floor surface to work on. Check with a spirit level in many directions and positions.</font></li><li><font size="3">Check that the lighting in the room is adequate.</font></li><li><font size="3">Work out which eye is your dominant eye if you don't already know. (Hold hands to form a circle at arms length. Look through circle at a specific object. Close one eye. Can you still see the object? Close other eye. Can you still see the object? The dominant eye is whichever eye you can still see the object with when the other eye is closed.</font></li><li><font size="3"><font size="3">You will be comparing structures for symmetry. To do this you must place your dominant eye:</font></font><ol><li><font size="3"><font size="3">In the same plane as the two structures you are comparing</font></font></li><li><font size="3"><font size="3">Equidistant from the two structures you are comparing</font></font></li></ol></li><li><font size="3"><font size="3">If you don't have these points right it won't work!</font></font></li></ol><br /><br /><font size="3"><strong>BOTTOM LINE &ndash; PRELIMINARY STRUCTURAL ASSESSMENT &ndash; PRE-TREATMENT</strong></font><br /><font size="3"><strong>STANDING ASSESSMENT</strong></font><ol><li><font size="3">Get person to STAND on the level area with their back facing towards you. Ensure they are standing with weight evenly on both feet, and the inside edges of their feet parallel.</font></li><li><font size="3">Ensure the light source of the room is shining across the body of the person.</font></li><li><font size="3">Stand a distance back and directly behind the client and look at their overall alignment.</font><ol><li><font size="3">Look at feet</font></li><li><font size="3">Are ankles straight or do they roll inwards?</font></li><li><font size="3">Is one calf muscle larger?</font></li><li><font size="3">Look at whole body &ndash; is spine straight?</font></li><li><font size="3">Are lower and middle back muscles symmetrical in development?</font></li><li><font size="3">Does one side look thicker or wider?</font><br /><font size="3">(Usually there is better development of lumbar muscles on the short leg side.)</font></li><li><font size="3">Are Gluteal folds horizontal and the same on both sides?</font></li><li><font size="3">Are hip bones horizontal?</font></li><li><font size="3">Get the client to breathe in and then out fully &ndash; does the most medial (towards the spine) part of the curve between the hip bone (ilium) and the lower lateral ribs look even on both sides?</font></li><li><font size="3">On women, are the dimples at the back of the hips level?</font></li><li><font size="3">Is lower back straight (vertical) and symmetrical when compared with the hips?</font></li><li><font size="3">Are there any sideways curves?</font></li><li><font size="3">Mid-back &ndash; does the spine look straight?</font></li><li><font size="3">Is it directly in line with the lumbar spine?</font></li><li><font size="3">Is there any misalignment in the whole of the middle and lower back?</font><br /><font size="3">In men the most reliable indicators are the lumbar muscles.</font><br /><font size="3">In women one hip seems fuller, or more rounded, than the other, and there is unlevelness of the dimples at the back of the hips.</font><br /><font size="3">Love handles are not good landmarks.</font></li></ol></li></ol><br /><br /><font size="3">Now move within arms reach of the person.</font><ol><li><font size="3">Palpate Iliac Crests and site Iliac Crests with your dominant eye in the correct position, in the same plane as the iliac crests, and equidistant between the two iliac crests. Note which if any is higher/lower.</font></li><li><font size="3">For this palpation and all future palpations of bony landmarks, it is often helpful to first locate with a broader flatter aspect of palm or thumb and fingers in a spiralling motion, and then to refine down to just thumb pads. Then spiral in to locate the prominence which projects outwards horizontally. Roll your thumbs or fingers down below the landmark, and up above, and inside, and outside, to come to a clear three dimensional assessment of where the landmark is. Repeat with eyes closed and open if necessary a few times. Eventually this will all be very quick, but take your time in the beginning. It helps to look away or close your eyes so you are not moving your thumbs/fingers where you want to see them, but where the bony prominence actually is.</font></li><li><font size="3">Palpate and sight Posterior Superior Iliac Spines (PSISs).</font></li><li><font size="3">Move to the front of the client (or get them to turn around 180 degrees).</font></li><li><font size="3">Palpate and sight Anterior Superior Iliac Spines (ASISs)</font></li><li><font size="3">If Iliac Crests, PSISs and ASISs are all lower on one side, this is a strong preliminary indicator of the lower side being the side of the short leg.</font></li><li><font size="3">Note down your observations on your written record.</font></li><li><font size="3">Carefully observe the Medial Malleoli of each ankle and their relationship. Having your head in the same plane as the two structures you are comparing in this instance necessitates getting your head way down on the ground. I recommend doing this from both directly in front of the person, and from directly behind the person, from close up, and well back<font size="3">.</font></font><br /><font size="3"><strong>DETERMINING MEASUREMENT OF LLD</strong></font></li><li><font size="3">Put blocks/shims/lift materials of known thicknesses under the shorter leg first, until all above indicators seem even. Remember person must stand with weight on both legs equally, with both feet still pointing straight ahead. (1mm to 1.25 mm shims are recommended. Alternatively, use the lift materials of varying thicknesses available from Podiatry suppliers.)</font></li><li><font size="3">Then put the same height of material under the longer leg, to exaggerate the pattern of distortion and to check your previous perception. Reassess all above indicators.</font></li><li><font size="3">Assess all changes from close up and from standing back.</font></li><li><font size="3">If rear foot pronation is observed, manually correct it as the person stands, get them to hold it, and reassess 9. to 16. above. This is very important, as pronation is common on the side of the short leg.</font></li></ol> <font size="3"><strong>TREATMENT</strong></font><ol><li><font size="3">Now assess in prone and supine and treat any functional pelvic lesions. If being very thorough, then assess and treat all lesions from waist down, or simply all lesions in whole body!</font></li><li><font size="3">Particular attention should be paid to Anterior and Posterior Iliac Rotation, Superior and Inferior Iliac Shear, and Inflare/Outflare Dysfunctions.</font></li><li><font size="3"><font size="3"><strong>REASSESS</strong></font><font size="3">&nbsp;with points 6. to 20.</font>&nbsp;There are three possibilities.</font><ol><li><font size="3">The measurement of the LLD is the same or greater than it was originally. Then the person definitely has a true LLD. The second measurement is considered to be the most accurate.</font></li><li><font size="3">The measurement of the LLD is less but landmarks are still unlevel. Then the patient may have a true LLD that also had a functional component. The second measurement is considered to be the most accurate.</font></li><li><font size="3">The measurement now shows no difference. In this case the difference was purely of functional origin with no structural component.</font></li></ol></li><li><font size="3">Do not implement lift therapy on the first session. Let the person determine if they are happy with the result from treatment as is, and if their pelvic dysfunctions return.</font></li><li><font size="3">On the second session, persons in category B) or C) in point 23. above who re-present with the same pelvic dysfunctions may require lift therapy.</font></li><li><font size="3">Persons in category B) of point 23. may require lift therapy if the true LLD exceeds 4 mm. This is a rough guide, and some practitioners find that even 2mm or less is significant for some people. Alternatively, medium-term monitoring or CT scan confirmation of LLD may be appropriate.</font></li><li><font size="3">Persons in category C) of point 23. do not require lift therapy, but rather correction of functional problems.</font></li></ol> <font size="3"><strong>IMPLEMENTING LIFT THERAPY</strong></font><ol><li><font size="3">Usually the amount of lift implemented is slightly less than half of the true LLD. This can be gradually increased over time to bring the final amount of lift within 4 mm of the true LLD as determined by the above indirect method or by CT scan.</font></li><li><font size="3">This leaves a safety margin for error if the indirect method is used, and allows for fixed structural changes that may be part of how the body grew with its short leg. On the other hand, some people may not feel right until the full amount is corrected, which would leave their hip levels in standing the same as what they have been in sitting there whole lives, unless they have considerable assymetry of the pelvis as well!</font></li><li><font size="3">Up to 9 mm of lifting can be implemented at each time.</font></li><li><font size="3">It is helpful if the person has a full treatment and then puts on their new footwear immediately when they get off the table and walk it in.</font></li><li><font size="3">Full sole lifts are preferable to simple heel lifts, as they preserve peri-talar mechanics and stability and prevent problems of forefoot strain developing or worsening.</font></li><li><font size="3">The following is quoted from&nbsp;<em>Patterns of facilitation and inhibitions of the lower extremities and pelvis</em>&nbsp;by Manual Therapy Institute:</font><br /><font size="3"><em>In general, it is possible to fit a full length lift of up to 5 mm inside many shoes worn by males. For females, good luck! For lift heights between 5-8 mm, it is recommended to build up the sole of one shoe. For heights in excess of this, it is recommended to raise the sole on the short leg to 8mm and reduce the sole on the long leg to the appropriate height.</em></font></li><li><font size="3">People must be cautioned that lift therapy use is continuous and must be incorporated into all footwear..</font></li><li><font size="3">Orthotic devices should only be employed once the joints and fasciae of the foot and ankle have been maximally corrected. If the amount of lift required is small enough, they can be adhered/incorporated into/with the full sole lift. Simple organisms, from an evolutionary perspective, have no need of circulating blood, cerebrospinal fluid supply, lymph drainage, or a spinal column. They have existed in the ocean for millennia, and the ocean moves the fluids around them. They also have no need of a nerve supply, and no discernible physical brain, other than within each cell, functionally speaking.<br />&nbsp;<br />2. Larger and more complex organisms have developed a spinal column and a complex and intricate nervous system, which serve the function of two-way communication between the brain and the cells and body tissues. The life rhythms, which move the body fluids, are under the control of this nervous system.<br />&nbsp;<br />3. Simplistically speaking, this nervous system has two basic aspects, sensation and function. These could also be called sensory and motor nervous systems, or afferent and efferent fibres. Sensation involves nerve communication from the tissues towards the brain. Function involves nerve communication in the other direction, from the brain towards the tissues.<br />&nbsp;<br />4. This two-way communication between the brain and the tissues is a fundamental requirement of all true healing in the body. It is a basic cellular requirement, so the brain knows what the cells want and vice versa. This is relevant to all nervous feedback loops in the body.<br />&nbsp;<br />5. Generally, motor fibres which run from the brain to the tissues are efferent and run in descending (downward) tracts in the spinal cord. Sensory fibres which run from the tissues to the brain are afferent and run in ascending (upward) tracts in the spinal cord.<br />&nbsp;<br />6. There is also a little-known DESCENDING SENSORY TRACT within the spinal column. It has been written about in some depth by Deane Juhan in his book Job's body. It's function is to modify incoming sensory information to the brain, facilitating and inhibiting incoming nerve signals to the rest of the central nervous system and brain.<br />&nbsp;<br />7. The Vital Energy of the body is constantly adapting to different stimuli in its surrounding environment. These include sunlight, pressure, gravity, heat, cold, dryness, moistness, taste, smell, sound, ingested chemicals/nutrients etc. These are perceived through the sensory nervous system which carries information to the central nervous system and brain, which then responds, and sends different adaptive information to that area and sometimes other areas of the body, through reflex effects.<br />&nbsp;<br />8. For example, if you rub an ice cube on the skin and dry the skin intermittently, the skin will eventually go bright pink. The initial stimulus is cold, and has a direct action on the body, sending the message to the brain that the area is cold and in need of more warm blood. The adaptive response from the body, or the secondary effect, is the increased blood flow and nerve supply to the area to warm it back up!<br />&nbsp;<br />9. If the initial cold stimulus is too strong or too prolonged, then the body will go numb, tissues and cells will be damaged, and eventually frostbite or necrosis (death) of tissue will occur.<br />&nbsp;<br />10. In addition, if the person who has the nervous system in question can't love the experience of feeling the sensation, then it becomes a trauma, often involving the formation of reactive tension patterns in the muscles and other tissues of the body, and contributing to the formation of stimulus-response-conditioned-reflexes (SRCRs).<br />&nbsp;<br />11. A man named Pavlov would ring a bell and then feed his dogs. The dogs learned that when they heard the bell, food was coming. The dogs' stomachs would begin secreting acid expecting the food to come when they heard the bell. After a period of conditioning, the dogs' stomachs would secrete acid at any time of the day or night, expecting food to come, whenever they heard the bell. The dogs had been conditioned into the formation of a stimulus-response-conditioned-reflex (SRCR) which was now automatic or compulsive, like addictions.<br />&nbsp;<br />12. Many of us have many different SRCRs (traumas) from a whole history of different forms of conditioning, many of which are currently unconscious, until they are triggered. Example triggers include a baby crying, the sound of mosquitoes, heights, flying, spiders, swimming, crowds, loud angry voices, fire, snakes, etc. Once conditioned a person loses choice in the given area of concern, because the response is compulsive and choiceless, and takes over from the person's own free will. In extreme form, this is relevant to obsessive compulsive disorders, panic and anxiety attacks, post traumatic stress disorder, addictions, certain behavioral problems, and brainwashing/mind control etc. The idea behind Conscious Healing and personal growth is to gradually eliminate these SRCRs to restore freedom of choice for a person.<br />&nbsp;<br />13. Out of interest, the smallest organism I've heard of that is currently on record that has been successfully traumatized (conditioned) is a small leech-like creature called a fleaworm??. If touched with a metallic probe it will not react much, but can be made to curl itself up when the metallic probe is made to be electrically active (when it is electrocuted). (It has a rudimentary nervous system.) After some traumatic training, it will curl itself up when touched in the same spot, even if the metallic probe is not electrically active, even though it had never curled itself up when touched there before being traumatized by the electric shocks. This is analogous to post-hypnotic suggestion, as well as certain mind control techniques that have been spoken of, which involve the use of pain, drug, and hypnosis in unison, to effectively traumatize and brainwash a person, taking away their free will, and turning them into a dutiful unconscious robot when given the appropriate stimulus.<br />&nbsp;<br />14. Any stimulus which exceeds the adaptive capacity of any organism, physically, emotionally, or psychologically, results in a disease process in the organism, forming SRCRs and potentially damaging tissue.<br />&nbsp;<br />15. True healing involves the Conscious application of energies to the human organism, so that certain nervous pathways are favorably influenced to promote tissue healing. Therapies which involve extremes of pressure, temperature, etc. can overwhelm the adaptive capacity of the physical organism, resulting in numbness, suppression, and damage. These therapies then become traumas. The Art of healing involves the perceptive and careful regulation and application of these energies, and education in the underlying principles of consciousness transformation, so that the individual restores their conscious freedom of choice, and overcomes the SRCRs/traumas, at the physical, emotional, and mental levels. This is the essence of Conscious Healing.<br />&nbsp;<br />16. So anything, including supposedly healing influences, which overwhelms the body's or mind's adaptive capacity tends to take the cells and tissues down the Healing and Disease Process Continuum (see on-line document by same author) into Numbness/Unconsciousness, Sclerosis/Hardening, and ultimately Necrosis/Death.<br />&nbsp;<br />17. So, never apply a stimulus which exceeds the adaptive capacity of the organism!<br />&nbsp;<br />18. Drinking of hot drinks and eating of hot foods can damage all the way from the lips to the stomach lining. Damage from this seems to be indicated by a thickening and darkening of the papillary frill in the iris or the eye. This can take several months to heal, to restore sensitivity to the damaged tissue. Some believe very cold foods and drinks may be in this category also. I have noted that mountain spring water seems to emerge from the ground at about 4 degrees Celsius. Basically, if you can stick your finger in it, or hold it in your hand indefinitely, it's alright to eat or drink, temperature-wise.<br />&nbsp;<br />19. Excessive prolonged or hot steam baths, saunas, heat treatments, sweat lodges, etc., especially those which deny the person fresh oxygenated air (those which have the head within the heat source) may be damaging.<br />&nbsp;<br />20. Excessively cold water that sends the body into numbness and shock may be damaging.<br />&nbsp;<br />21. Electrical, electromagnetic (EM) and magnetic medical treatment devices can impose a different set of energies onto the human body which are not the same as its own energies. These can force the body to suppress certain sensations, or block pain receptors and other nervous structures. This includes electric shock treatment, and electric acupuncture devices. In short, they can be highly suppressive.<br />&nbsp;<br />22. Thermal, radiant, and inductive energy effects which may overwhelm the body include sunburn, frostbite, mobile phone exposure, sleeping with head near the back of a television set, electrical induction from mains power supply, video display unit exposure from a cathode ray tube, electric shocks, electric blankets, water-bed heating mantle, X-rays and other EM diagnostic tests, general background EM noise, fluorescent lights, powerlines, and theoretically even GSR meter DC voltages.<br />&nbsp;<br />23. Thermal changes affect crystal formations and cause them to emit a current. In Philosophy of Natural Therapeutics, Henry Lindlahr indicated that this was similar to the way an Oxydonor works, with the temperature differences in a piece of metal causing an electric current.<br />&nbsp;<br />24. A deeper understanding of the way the human body interacts with external energies is available in several books. These include The Electromagnetic Man by Cyril Smith, and Hidden Healing Powers of the Electromagnetic Spectrum by Ernst Zeydel. Harald Tietze also has an excellent small book on measuring and excluding electrically induced body voltages from your sleeping and main living and working areas.<br />&nbsp;<br />25. Certain hypnosis and mind-control techniques can be used to block the sensory perception of the person's brain from their body, perhaps by modifying the descending sensory tract. These can be highly suppressive, and can further distract a person from being able to objectively perceive the truth of an actual experience. Mental short-circuitry where a person convinces themself, or is aided by a therapist/hypnotist in convincing themselves, that the past happened differently than it really did is actually a technically advanced form of truth-denial. Turning the pain down until you can't feel it, or blowing it away in a pink bubble, etc., are in this category. This is suppressing the pain without dealing with the cause or the truth of it. Transferring a person's addiction for chocolate over to carrots doesn't resolve the basis of their tendency to addiction. Please remember that there is a time and place for everything, however.<br />&nbsp;<br />26. Firewalks, as promoted in some new age circles, are suppressive, and are another form of truth-denial. If anyone wishes to argue with this, they need to realize that they may not have learned how to love the sensation of being burned alive. They have learned how to suppress the sensation of burning, and internally suppress this heat deep into the core of their body through thermal conduction. This results in an instant overwhelmed shock-like condition which the person does not even realise, and an enormous suppression of thermal-electrical energy. Firewalks are highly suppressive to the link between the sensory nerves of the feet and the brain, and thereby dampen/numb out these vital reflexes as are used in foot reflexology and other therapies. If this is still not understood, perhaps firewalking advocates would like to hold a candle flame underneath their tongue as they stick it out! The tongue is very close to the brain, and occupies a large portion of the homunculus area in the somato-sensory cortex of the brain. This will be a lot harder to suppress than the feet which are so far from the brain. (I don't really recommend this - it is just an example to demonstrate the foolishness of the activity.)<br />&nbsp;<br />27. Beware of allowing yourself to be overcome by peer pressure, or feeling obligated to do what the group does (sheep mentality). Beware of participating in a thing you are unsure of simply because the people around you are doing it. Instead, investigate thoroughly and responsibly, and be responsible for your own decisions. Otherwise, it is the equivalent of running a red light at a pedestrian crossing because the car in the lane next to you is doing so.<br />&nbsp;<br />28. Part of my experiences of observing people passing through healing crises has been observing those, who upon the restoration of their nerve supply to their feet, experience those energy patterns/sensory experiences which were suppressed below the level of their conscious awareness.<br />&nbsp;<br />29. Two of the people I have observed who I know personally, and others, have re-experienced the burning excruciating pain in their feet which they suppressed during the firewalk. This involved them screaming in pain for several hours, and coming to a full and conscious realisation of everything which they suppressed during the firewalk. If you doubt this, fair enough, but I encourage you to investigate this matter thoroughly before condemning the viewpoint and experience I am offering here.<br />&nbsp;<br />30. Let anyone who believes they have attained mastery by being able to suppress the pain and burning heat of a firewalk within their bodies see the error of their ways. There is a time for all things. There is a time to suppress. And there is a time to re-experience, transmute, and release with love, forgiveness, and understanding, what one has suppressed. If someone can consciously endure the pain of being burned, with full awareness of all energy patterns, including the pain and heat, and generate not one ounce of reactivity, or negativity, or tension, but only generates love and compassion, then this person has a chance of heading towards some kind of mastery.<br />&nbsp;<br />31. A simple pinch test of the feet compared to the inside of the thigh is very useful. The feet will be numb relative to the inside of the thigh, in those who have suppressed the pain of the firewalk inside their bodies. (It can commonly be relatively numb anyway.) After this has been re-experienced, the feet will become just as sensitive as the inside of the thigh again. Sometimes even the inside of the thigh is numb, and we must compare with the skin on the front of the neck. If the whole body is affected (numb) we cannot compare.<br />&nbsp;<br />32. A passage in the Bible states "Do not let your seed pass through the fire unto Mollech." A rabbinical scholar I met believed this was an ancient warning to future generations, about the harmfulness of the firewalk.<br />&nbsp;<br />33. Now if you think you may have made a boo-boo! feel free to contact me. If you've ignorantly led people, or been led, along this path, I recommend the following. First, understand deeply, then admit your mistake (you're allowed to make them!), ask forgiveness, and then do everything you can to make right what you've done. I have observed that the practices of Sustained Acupressure and Body Hydropathy answer this requirement, as they have been demonstrated to bring to the surface for conscious re-experience and release, those energy patterns/sensory experiences which were suppressed.<br />&nbsp;<br />34. The healing process/crises are prevented by continual numbing influences. This includes marijuana, and chemicals which suppress pain and symptomology and don't address root causes.<br />&nbsp;<br />35. Marijuana has such a continual numbing influence on the nervous system and brain that true healing is prevented from occurring. The fact that these things are incomplete and unmanifested represents a block in the flow of our outward-going creative energy. This often manifests as tensions in the muscles of the body, and as a lack of clarity mentally. The List is a way of prioritising and reminding ourselves repeatedly of these incomplete tasks, until we manifest them, as a creative act of resolution, in the world around us.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />The items that we place on the List are not to be self-indulgent or involutionary in their nature. They are not meant to be frivolous irrelevant fancies, cravings and aversions. They are meant so that we may reach a point, eventually, of Karmic resolution. All that is incomplete, will be made complete, and we are at peace.<br />Grab a pen and paper and write down all your goals, and all your desires which are evolutionary in nature. Then write down all your responsibilities, which you must carefully consider, until you are CERTAIN that these are responsibilities that you have chosen, and not simply the expectations of others. To thine own heart be true.<br /><br />Then write down all the incompleted tasks (fixing tools, home renovations, tidying floor of room, etc.) This portion of the list is often very extensive.<br /><br />Then with tremendous self-honesty, even in the face of our deepest fears, we must write down all the areas which need making amends, and all the conflicts which we do not yet feel at peace about, as we have not exhausted all the possibilities that we could to resolve them. The other people with whom we have had the conflicts sometimes will not fill their lives with forgiveness and share it with others. If you have had a conflict with an unforgiving person, you will gain no benefit from punishing yourself for the rest of your life.<br /><br />First forgive yourself, then ask their forgiveness, if appropriate, or ask for their apology, if appropriate. The nature of the other person does not affect whether we have done everything within our power to resolve the situation. Once we have done everything in our power, then we can rest peacefully, and think of the other person lovingly, regardless of whether they have found peace and forgiveness in their heart or not.<br />This last section is very difficult, where we must deal with our own justifications for our past emotional reactivity, and our past irrational decisions never to speak again, never to love or trust again, or never to do this or that again. Eventually we can resolve all areas of disharmony, where we have not done what we require to do to feel peaceful about a past situation or relationship.<br /><br />Goethe stated Great things are done in secret. There is much truth in this statement. When the accumulating energy for a task is dispersed on useless verbal chatter, and many are informed of a plan which you are about to enact, then everyone else's suggestions and criticisms can sometimes cloud your intent and ability to enact the task in question. For this reason, it may be best to only discuss the items on your List with those people directly concerned with the completion of that particular List item, or those you intuitively feel you should tell. In this way, responsibility of decision will be learned.<br /><br />Now prioritise the List. The simple day to day tasks are written down the bottom of the List. This will involve rewriting the items on the List on a fresh sheet of paper. These simple day to day short-term tasks will be tasks which can be visualised clearly in advance. It is not that difficult, for example, to see the floor of a room clean and organised, in your mind, before you do it. So the items where we can see in our minds the end, from the beginning of the task, we place at the bottom of the list.<br /><br />Then we work our way up the list, the tasks gradually becoming more and more complex, and more and more difficult to visualise. Also the further up the list we go, the longer term the goals become. This is often a very difficult task, as priorities need to be carefully weighed mentally. Finally we will have an end result, our first finished List.<br /><br />Now, to use the List, every morning and evening, we can reread it, and cross off the items which are complete, reorder priorities which have changed, cross off items which now seem inappropriate, etc. After we complete a task on the List, we say and feel It is good, and we relax in the knowledge that that task is complete and we never need to think about it again. The self-acknowledgment at this point, is a very important pause, in which we build enthusiasm for the further completion of higher List items.<br /><br />Gradually as the simpler tasks are complete, the previously indistinct fuzzy tasks midway up the list become easier to visualise, and we reach a point of mental clarity where we can see the end-point from the beginning, in these tasks also. As the Vitality of a person gradiently increases, they consciously remember, re-experience, and release, past suppressed traumas. These include old pains and physical symptoms, which frequently intensify before passing away. These are known as Healing Crises.</div>  <div>  <!--BLOG_SUMMARY_END--></div>  <div class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;">&#8203;(The pain often gets stronger before it goes away.)<br /><br />2.&nbsp;<span>This Vitality is dependent upon:</span><br />(i)&nbsp;<span>The Ancient Natural Energies of Sun, Earth, and Cosmos</span><br />(ii)&nbsp;<span>Inherited Vital strengths, and weaknesses (miasms)</span><br />(iii)&nbsp;<span>The Conscious generation of Loving Enthusiasm and other Spiritual Attitudes</span><br />(iv)&nbsp;<span>Constructive intentions, thoughts, feelings, words, and actions. Positive Attitude!</span><br />(v)&nbsp;<span>Enough Water of adequate purity and energy</span><br />(vi)&nbsp;<span>Intensive Nutrition to provide the cellular requirements</span><br />(vii)&nbsp;<span>Overall constructive lifestyle, including choices of action, association, environment</span><br />(viii)&nbsp;<span>Communication between the brain and the tissues and back again (Nerve Supply)</span><br />(ix)&nbsp;<span>The physical movement of the Breath and other Life Rhythms throughout the entire body from head to toes and fingertips (Inherent Tissue Motion)</span><br />(e.g. Arterial pulse, Fascial Respiratory Motion, Cranial Rhythmic Impulse (CRI), Visceral Motility, Venomotion, Vasomotion)<br />(x)&nbsp;<span>The Circulation and Drainage of Blood, Lymph, and Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) to and/or from the body tissues (fluid interchange), and</span><br />(xi)&nbsp;<span>The emotional and mental willingness and desire to smilingly re-experience and release all from the person's past that was previously suppressed or resisted.</span><br /><br />3.&nbsp;<span>A person will gradiently remember, re-experience, and release each trauma in the here and now, on the Physical, Emotional, and Mental levels. Transmutation occurs when, moment by moment, with the appropriate Spiritual Attitudes, a person consciously, lovingly, and willingly, Receives (yin &#128;&#147; afferent nerves) and Recreates or Intensifies (yang - efferent nerves) all suppressed aspects of each trauma.</span><br /><br />4.&nbsp;<span>Although exceptions frequently occur, the progression of this re-experience of previously suppressed symptoms frequently occurs according to the following patterns:</span><br />(i)&nbsp;<span>Most consistently, in reverse chronological order as to how the symptoms were originally experienced (from the present, all the way back to birth and beyond apparently including ancestral or genetic trauma and past life experience)</span><br />(ii)&nbsp;<span>From more important organs to less important organs (next most applicable)</span><br />(iii)&nbsp;<span>From within out (centre to periphery, spinal cord and digestive organs to skin, and from mental, to emotional, to physical levels of experience) (can reverse)</span><br />(iv)&nbsp;<span>From the head down (brain to fingers and toes) (least often observable)</span><br />(v)&nbsp;<span>From degenerative, to chronic, to sub-acute, to acute, to normal</span><br />(vi)&nbsp;<span>From lesser to greater layers of intensity within each trauma</span><br />(vii)&nbsp;<span>Apparently in reverse sequence through manifestations of syphilitic, sycotic, psoric and other miasms (which are ancient suppressed inheritable infectious disease patterns)</span><br /><br />5.&nbsp;<span>Typically, during a Healing Crisis a person physically experiences the following (as partially described in the online document&nbsp;<em>Healing and Disease Process Continuum</em>):</span><br />(i)&nbsp;<span>Lumps and bumps and Tissue Hardenings in the physical body dissolving while flexibility is restored (Hardenings includes crystallizations and calcifications.)</span><br />(ii)&nbsp;<span>The return of past suppressed physical Numbness and Pain</span><br />(iii)&nbsp;<span>The return of past suppressed physical Eliminations</span><br />(iv)&nbsp;<span>The return of past suppressed Acute symptoms which preceded their original Chronic conditions</span><br />(v)&nbsp;<span>Theoretically, symptoms associated with the clearing of inherited taints (miasms)</span><br />(vi)&nbsp;<span>The physical body regenerating in both Structure and Function towards symmetry</span><br />(vii)&nbsp;<span>Favorable changes occurring in the Iris and Sclera of the eye.</span><br /><br />6. Memory returns from the void of complete Unconsciousness, gradually becoming more and more detailed, and changing from general to highly specific in nature. This includes:<br />(i)&nbsp;<span>Sensory Memory including sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch</span><br />(including all previously suppressed pain, bodily sensations, and symptoms).<br />(ii)&nbsp;<span>Word Patterns including words heard, spoken, or inside your mind, and</span><br />(iii)&nbsp;<span>Emotions, which range broadly between compulsive victimization (unconsciousness/shock/overwhelm/vulnerability/aversion/yin), and compulsive causation (obsession/control/denial/adaptation/protection/ craving/yang).</span><br /><br />7.&nbsp;<span>A person realises how they have compulsively adapted and protected themselves from experiencing their core vulnerabilities in the past, and becomes able to experience them. The duality of compulsive victimization and compulsive causation is thus consciously perceived, and a person is then more free in this area of life.</span><br /><br />8.&nbsp;<span>Once the physical suppression is released, and the emotional reactivity is transmuted, a person then consciously perceives the dualities associated with the trauma at the mental level, and reaches a point of joyful discernment in the related areas of concern. Creative responsibility is reassumed and the ability to entertain multiple viewpoints in these related areas replaces the tendency to laying blame and justification.</span><br /><br />9.&nbsp;<span>Gradiently, a person experiences on the mental level, that which exists on the physical level, freeing themselves from identification with matter, and bondage to the physical.</span><br /><br />10.&nbsp;<span>A healing crisis is NOT a condition of balance, and is not supposed to be.&nbsp;</span>It is important to understand that a person's body passes through many different relative levels of balance in between their successive healing crises. The use of balancing therapies may be suppressive to the proper completion of a healing crisis. It should be noted that this is the first time that Jason ever managed to feel the pulsation in his toes. After going AIP she didn't need her arms to roll over at all!)</li><li>release of abdominal adhesion left from gall bladder operation at 2 years old - deeper breathing in abdomen (almost non-existent before)</li><li>release of chest - dramatic long-term improvement of asthma</li><li>went through suppressed back pain</li><li>not bad for no points held while facilitator exhausted! &nbsp;</li><li>Robbie's mother's testimonial (No.10) with AIP (suggested as experiment to try at home to de-congest abdominal area) - head pain, and cranial restructuring (his right frontal eminence came out, and he intuitively knew that a man's property was for sale, and that a Chinese man wanted to buy it!) Earlier we combined AIP with point-holding, as has been done several other times. This resulted in return of sweat function to facial cheeks, which previously had not perspired for over a decade. Please consider that sweat is a flow of electrolytes. This suggests a potential for crystal dissolution and also that colloidal minerals are important supplementation. This case history demonstrates compatibility of AIP and B.E. Also note, subsequent use of AIP by Robbie resulted further in him feeling his cranial bones moving.<br /></li><li>Irene's testimonial (No.3) with AIP - disappearance of sway back (also combined with Hippocrates diet and health program, post-operative breast lump disappeared). Irene had tremendous abdominal pain, burning toes and heels, with return of suppressed memory. Her sway back she had had as long as she could remember. For three days she tested it before writing me a testimonial. Her lower back now lays flat to the ground when she lays down.</li><li>My father's experience with AIP (because I didn't have time to hold his points enough). Shrinkage of calcifications in thoracic spine and arm and wrist musculature, pain and burning in arms and shoulders and several other places on body leading to increased freedom and strength of movement in arms. Austrian massage therapist/doctor/naturopath/prior consultant specialist of the Olympic Federation, personally inspected calcifications in his back and wrist at time of last visit and again on return visit, and was amazed at how the huge calcifications had shrunk down into tiny pebbles. He was excited and wanted to know more! The only therapy administered in the time interval between treatments was AIP. This doctor has about forty years of experience in body palpation and manipulative therapies.<br /><br /></li></ul><br />Melody's testimonial (No.5) of AIP -<br /><br />passing in and out of consciousness for several hours activa. Often they are a re-experience of an old childhood rash that was suppressed. Concurrent with the re-experience of the old rash, and elimination of old toxic smells through the skin, comes the fading and disappearance of the scurf rim in the iris of the eye. I wish to point out at this time very specifically, that I have never seen any of the techniques in this document when used properly, result in the increase in width or darkness of the scurf rim in the iris of the eye. The contrary DOES occur, however.<br /><br /><strong>3.BLANKET PACK - WHOLE BODY COMPRESSION (WBC)</strong><br /><br />Jason's first experience (No.9) of WBC. The worst feeling I've ever felt in my life! Jason experienced dull chest pain and creaking in sternum, severe burning in toes, on top of left foot, and sacrum - strong pulsing throughout body, severe sweating all over body, full anteriority of all iris fibres going bright white (he observed this himself also, and stated that it was the most obvious healing crisis indications he had ever seen in his iris). He hit the fear level, and just wanted to run away (difficult when you're tightly wrapped up in a sheet and blanket, with about 14 blankets on top of you double folded!) Jason elected to discontinue the session after about 2.5 hours. He began to access a few childhood memories and feelings during the session.<br /><br /><br /><strong>4.SPINAL ICE TECHNIQUE (SIT)</strong><br /><br /><ul style="color:rgb(51, 51, 51)"><li>Virginia experienced return of feeling to fingers and toes which had not returned even after two holdings of her STO points. Usually SIT would wipe her out for about 3 or 4 hours after every session.<br /></li><li>Rob - I observed white area around T5 part way through SIT when rest of spine had gone pink. This turned out to be the chronic area of his spine where he had had pain for years (this is quite a consistent finding - a useful diagnostic tool). I worked to get this area of his spine pink by continuing and concentrating on this area with frequent towel drying and rubbing in between. Finally it went pink. Rob also had a history of chronic digestive problems (Nerves from T5 supply the stomach). Following SIT, on his way home, Rob noticed a warm glowing feeling in his stomach from the improved nerve and blood supply.<br /></li><li>Mark (No.7) observed my iris change, stage by stage, during a healing crisis which followed on after SIT. I lay still for a couple of hours after SIT, with strong burning and pain in my legs and chest, as he observed the changes outlined in his testimonial. I felt my anterior 5<span>th</span>&nbsp;Lumbar slide backwards into position. The back pain and poor leg circulation seem to have now gone. Holding still after SIT and continuing to receive and recreate (transmute) old resistances is very important for results. Without this it is just another physical therapy that affects blood flow and stimulates nerves.</li><li>Mark's (No.8) spine wouldn't go pink below about T9. I used about 6 bowls of ice, with frequent drying and rubbing in between ice strokes, and spent about a half hour with unusually strong pressure on the ice strokes, until he finally was pink from T9 to his tail-bone. He began to feel electric heat sensations moving from his spine into different parts of his body, especially his abdomen and legs. He held still after SIT and with some facilitation went through three old leg injuries with a full-blown re-experience of the old pain and memory, and with full anteriority of his iris fibres which went bright white. Please see his testimonial later in this document.<br /><br /><br /></li></ul> <strong>5.SPINAL ICE PACK (SIP)</strong><br /><br /><ul style="color:rgb(51, 51, 51)"><li>Jason's spine stayed white on SIT between T11 and L1. We placed a pack (same as AIP) on this area of his spine with him lying face down. He felt strong throbbing in his abdomen over the next 3.5 hours, while he drifted in and out of consciousness (it was in the morning and he'd had plenty of sleep, and not felt tired before the ice pack). After we finished he became aware of a stomach pain which was so intense he did not want to have lunch! Together we checked his eyes: me with an iris torch, and he with a self-analysis mirror. We both observed marked anteriority of his iris fibres, especially in zone 1 and 2 - the digestive area. This appeared very conspicuous and obvious as zones 1 and 2 are notorious for being sunken back in the iris from enzyme deficiency. The nerves from T11 and L1 supply the intestines, the area of his pain. On removal of the ice pack in SIP and AIP the area is still highly sensitive to pinching (good pain response) and therefore is NOT numb. It is also bright pink characteristically. The iris fibres of the relevant sections of the eye move particularly anterior, thus indicating increased nerve supply and electrical potential in the relevant tissues. I could see NO increase of scurf rim in skin zone anywhere on body. Sweating function in Jason has gradually improved using Body Hydropathy. Details on proper formation and application of the ice pack for AIP and SIP follow later.<br /></li><li>I, for about 2 hours with SIP on L4,5, experienced strong throbbing in my thighs almost continuously. The next day I noticed my thigh muscles were shaped differently and were much stronger. I chose L4,5 because this is one of the areas which stayed white the longest with SIT. Also, after this I noticed an old childhood rash (from Grade 6 in school) emerged on my lower legs.<br /><br /><br /></li></ul> <strong>6.ABDOMINAL COMPRESS (AC)</strong><br /><br /><ul style="color:rgb(51, 51, 51)"><li>Ms D.M. from Perth (No.2) wrote me a testimonial demonstrating the usefulness of the AC. This contains extremely important information on tumour shrinkage, rash elimination, and improvement of digestive function. These were worn continuously by everyone who attended the Water-Cure establishment with Vincent Priessnitz. They called it Neptune's Girdle, and wore it to hasten the appearance of healing crises. These they congratulated each other on having experienced whenever they appeared, much to the horror of visitors, who couldn't understand that fever, rash, boils, abscesses, and various other symptoms were actually sought after deliberately by these people. (Not unlike a Body Electronics Intensive!) Photocopies from rare old books, are included in this document, describing this situation!<br /></li><li>A young lady who hadn't had a bowel evacuation for 3 days came to me. I suggested a AC. Her abdomen felt very hot, so I didn't cover the compress with wool. I was in a hurry, and went off to attend to a pressing work obligation. I returned in a few minutes to find that she was having a bowel movement.</li></ul><br /><strong>7.SPINAL COMPRESS (SC)</strong><br /><br />Susie B. wrote me a testimonial (No.1) on her experience of the SC. Please note her carefully recorded experience which may be of benefit to others.<br /><br /><strong>8.COLD WET HAND FRICTION (CWHF)<br /></strong><br /><ul style="color:rgb(51, 51, 51)"><li>Heather's neck/back/abdomen and feet were frictioned vigorously until bright pink and warm. The morning after this she noticed her axillary temperature which she took regularly, had jumped up by 1 degree Celsius overnight, and stayed up thereafter. (The woman is well acquainted with taking temperatures with a thermometer and has done so frequently during her many years as a nurse. She frequently took her own axillary temperature to check her thyroid function. It seems that one CWHF session resulted in increased thyroid activity overnight which maintained.) She also found that she wasn't so easily puffed as before (which had become a problem), and that after years of not sweating, she began to sweat with relative ease, even in cooler weather after a little physical activity. This result, from CWHF, of returned sweat function to the skin after years of chronic inactivity in the skin, is consistent in everyone I've ever used it on for that purpose, or other purposes. Some of these people were already on a full nutritional program including niacin to induce a flush. Some of these people flushed with the niacin and some didn't no matter what we tried, but THEY sweated properly only after the CWHF.<br /></li><li>A child with a thick scurf rim was given gentle CWHF for 20 mins until his back showed a pink reaction and burst out in a rash. I warned his father in advance that CWHF would bring back any old skin rashes, and that this was to be expected. He said that sunblock was religiously applied to his child's skin at day-care. I suggested he do his best to enact the following principle for his family: IF YOU WOULDN'T EAT IT, THEN DON'T PUT IT ON YOUR SKIN!<br /></li><li>(No.5) As mentioned earlier, after a cold water rebirth with CWHF continuously over her whole body, Melody experienced a regression through old feverish symptomatology with her body shivering, even though she was warm to the touch and looked pink! After this, she could feel gentle pulsing and warmth in her hands and feet for days, and along with the AIP she experienced a basic change in the status of her circulation which has now lasted for months. She used to, for years, have cold hands and feet, and they are now warm, even in cold weather!<br /></li><li>Tanna was immersed in a tub at about 26&deg;C up to her waist and vigorous friction was applied to her immersed legs and her back. Ablutions were given to her head periodically. This continued for about 5 minutes, after which she walked around with a dry sheet around her body. This whole sequence was repeated three times. Tanna reported feeling cool for the rest of the day, having an enormous appetite, and having 3 or 4 bowel movements that day. After this, Tanna had a tremendous improvement in the circulation in her body, especially her legs and feet, which were extremely warm afterwards - a change which has lasted for weeks.</li></ul><br /><strong>9.THERMO-REGULATORY HYDROTHERAPY (TRHT)</strong><br /><br />Please read attached article section from the European magazine - special edition on Dr Kakkar's research. Please note the endocrine gland hormonal secretion, blood circulation, and oxygenation effects confirmed in laboratory and medical studies. Please note in particular the reflex stimulation of the hypothalamus. This strikes me as being similar to the B.E. flow sheet sequence from the hypothalamus down through the endocrine chain.<br /><br />Dr Kakkar is using a very specific protocol in his work. Priessnitz would sometimes do what Kakkar suggests for hours with CWHF (rubbing) (even more tiring than point holding!) for gout patients.<br /><br /><strong>10.HALF BATH.</strong><br /><br />Another option, from Priessnitz, was to place the person in a half bath in 3-6 inches of water at about 16&deg;C. Blankets were then wrapped around them and the tub, to hold in the air that the body warmed. People were often left like this for 6 hours a day, for 6 or 7 days, until fever was produced, and they broke out in rashes or boils, at which time their gout or arthritis would miraculously disappear!<br /><br />We know in B.E. that the thymus and thyroid have begun to work again when we get a healing crisis fever. Priessnitz seemed to like to jump straight to this stage by continual stimulation of the hypothalamus with cold water. In this way, the cold water was used like pressure on a point, and was sustained until the body reacted. It was noted that people's appetites and thirst would increase drastically during this treatment, probably from the hypothalamus hyperactivity that ensued temporarily during the reawakening of it's function and the increased demand for nutrition and hydration from the newly restructuring tissues with the increased circulation. The ice in the SIT/SIP/AIP is used similarly.<br /><br />It has been suggested that there are temperature receptors, with feedback to the hypothalamus temperature regulation area in the brain, in the abdomen and pelvic areas (by Guyton). The cold water of the Sitz Bath and the ice of the SIT/SIP/AIP may activate these temperature receptors, explaining why the sub-normal temperature of the chronic debilitated patient of Johanna Brandt's went back up to normal again (see attached article on The Ice Cure from her book The Grape Cure. Also read section discussing the Splanchnic circulation, further on.)<br /><br />Sustained digital pressure on a spinal nerve was taught in chiropractic school to cause permanent nerve damage. This was taught out of fear, and from experience with people who didn't have enough nutrition to get through their suppressed numbness. John Ray discovered that if one continued the pressure a crisis was induced with burning pain and eventually fever, once the thyroid reawakened. Similarly, cold water, and ice, induce numbness, but once the numbness is worked through, the burning and increased circulation begin, producing a crisis. Of course, if too much pressure is applied, something breaks, or the person never gets through the numbness, and even actual damage can occur. Similarly, if excessive coldness is applied inappropriately (too cold or too long or too sudden), damage can occur, and the body can be made even more numb and traumatised (the numbness in the skin of surfing addicts from their winter surfing is an example). This is a matter for careful discernment.<br /><br />If cold water or ice causes pain you can't yet endure, or produces a numbness and insensitivity of the skin, then the scurf rim in the iris of the eye will thicken, and iris fibres will regress. If excessively prolonged and overly intense heat is applied to the skin previously or by itself, then the scurf rim will grow as metabolism exceeds circulation in the body tissues. The scurf rim grows because of pooling of metabolic waste around the cells during the excess heat, and numbness and nerve damage from the excess cold. Because people have misapplied these primal energies (heat and cold, fire and water) in the past, and forced the organism into a disease process, resulting in numbness, insensitivity, under activity and toxicity of the skin, causing the scurf rim to grow, and other involutionary signs (regression and darkening of fibres) to occur in the iris, does not then rule out all hydropathy. To say or think so, is akin to saying that because a four tonne weight falling on a persons lower back damages them, so does a Body Electronics pointholding session with an elbow on an anterior lumbar vertebrae. This we know is not true, unless we put a large gorilla on a little old lady with osteoporosis, in which case her spine might break!<br /><br />The cold causes mechanical and reflex toning and contraction of the tissues, which increases the pressure around the crystallisations in the body, and so they begin to dissolve. I don't know what name to give to this technique - perhaps cryo-thermo-piezo-electric effect! This physics laboratory principle/effect is just as legitimate as the piezo-electric effect whereby a compressed crystal gives out a current.<br /><br />Here follows Henry Lindlahr's comments on warm and hot baths:<br /><br /><em>It is only on rare occasions that we recommend bathing at high temperature. Continually indulged in, it weakens the circulation, enervates the superficial nervous system and leads to atrophy of the cuticle. The effect of warm and hot bathing on the skin shows in the eyes through the heavy dark scurf rim in the outer border of the iris.&nbsp;</em>(Anyone putting down hydropathy based on negative iris changes needs to read Henry Lindlahr's book Irisdiagnosis (Volume IV in his Natural Therapeutics series) to see the results of properly applied hydropathy in combination with proper nutrition.)<br /><br />Combine with this the understanding that a serious proposal was put forward for the use of hot baths (40&deg;C) as a contraceptive measure for men (long sought after by some!). This proposal was forwarded because of the dramatic lowering of sperm production and sex hormone output that occurs from hot bathing and wearing underwear that holds the testicles too close to the body instead of letting them hang freely as nature intended! Basically, heat shuts down the body's metabolism and hormone output, and cold raises it, as conclusively proven by Dr Kakkar.<br /><br />Henry Lindlahr's comments on The Danger of Prolonged or Excessively Cold Applications follows:<br /><br /><em>As I have pointed out, only water of ordinary temperature as it comes from the tap should generally be used in hydropathic applications. It is positively dangerous to apply ice bags to an inflamed organ or to use icy water for packs and ablutions in febrile conditions. Likewise, ice or icy water should not be used in the hydropathic treatment of chronic diseases. Excessive cold is as suppressive in its effects upon the organism as are poisonous antiseptics and anti-fever medicines. The baths, sprays, douches, etc., should not be kept up for too long. The duration of the cold applications must be regulated to the individual condition of the patient and by his power of reaction. It should be borne in mind that it is the short, quick application that produces the stimulating, electromagnetic effects upon the system.</em><br /><br />Ice Packs in Body Hydropathy are not used in acute disease, but to awaken the person's vitality so their chronic conditions are replaced by their previous acute ones. Two towel layers are used between the ice and the skin, and the ice pack is only applied to a small area of the body at once. During SIT, the ice is applied intermittently with rubbing dry, and is persisted in until the skin is pink and reaction is achieved. Ice can be beneficial if used properly to induce a healing crisis.<br /><br />Bottom line: start bathing in tepid water, and gradually decrease the temperature as your body slowly adapts over a period of months to cold water. Never use water so cold it numbs the skin or exceeds your ability to endure. People with numb skins must have friction rubs or STOs held until their skin is sensitive enough for them to tell if the temperature of the water is causing them damage.<br /><br />Following are Lindlahr's comments on the "Electromagnetic Effect of Cold Water":<br /><br /><em>One of the most important but least understood effects of hydropathic treatment is its influence upon the electromagnetic energies in the human body. I have never found any allusions to this aspect of the cold water treatment in any books on hydrotherapy which have come to my notice. The sudden application of cold water or cold air to the surface of the nude body and the inhalation of cold air into the lungs have the effect of increasing the amount of electromagnetic energy in the system. This can be verified by the following experiment:</em><br /><br /><em>Insert one of the plates of an electrometer (sensitive galvanometer) into the stomach of a person who has remained some time in a warm room. Now let this person inhale suddenly fresh, cold outside air. At once the galvanometer will register a larger amount of electromagnetic energy. The same effect will be produced by the application of a quick, cold spray to the warm body. It is the sudden lowering of temperature on the surface of the body or in the lungs, and the resulting contrast between the heat within and the cold outside, that causes the increased manifestation of electromagnetic energy in the system. This, together with the acceleration of the entire circulation, undoubtedly accounts for the tonic effect of cold water applications such as cold packs, ablutions, sprays, sitz baths, barefoot walking, etc., and for the wonderfully bracing influence of fresh cold outside air. In our Nature Cure work we find all the way through that the continued application of warmth has a debilitating effect upon the organism, and that only by the opposing influences of alternating heat and cold, including seasonal climatic variations, can we produce the natural stimulation which awakens the dormant vital energies in the body of the chronic.</em><br /><br />Following are Lindlahr's comments on "Increase of Oxygen and Ozone":<br /><br /><em>The liberation of electromagnetic currents through cold water applications has other very important effects upon the system besides that of stimulation. Electricity splits up molecules of water into hydrogen, oxygen and ozone. We have an example of this in the thunderstorm. The powerful electric discharges which we call lightning separate or split the watery vapours of the air into these elements. It is the increase of oxygen and ozone in the air that purifies and sweetens the atmosphere after the storm. In acute as well as in chronic disease, large amounts of oxygen and ozone are liberated, and these elements assist to a considerable extent in the oxidation and neutralization of waste materials and disease products.</em><br /><br /><em>The following experiment proves that sudden changes of temperature create electric currents in metals: When two cylinders of dissimilar metals are welded together, and one of the metals is suddenly chilled or heated, electric currents are produced which will continue to flow until both metals are at the same temperature. Another application of this principle is furnished by the oxydonor. If both poles of this little instrument are exposed to the same temperature, there is no manifestation of electricity; but if one of the poles be attached to the warm body and the other immersed in cold water or exposed to cold air, the liberaton of electromagnetic currents begins at once. These electric currents set free oxygen and ozone, which in their turn support the oxidation and neutralization of systemic poisons. According to my experience, however, the cold water applications are more effective in this respect than the oxydonor.</em><br /><br />The final words from Lindlahr for this document is on "Why We Favour Cold Water":<br /><br /><em>Some advocates of natural methods still favour warm or hot applications in the form of hot water baths, various kinds of steam or sweat baths, electric light baths, hot compresses, fomentations, etc. However, the great majority of Nature Cure practitioners have come to abandon hot applications almost entirely because of their weakening and enervating after-effects and because in many instances they have not only failed to produce the expected results but have aggravated the disease conditions.</em><br /><br /><em>We can explain the different effects of hot and cold water as well as of all other therapeutic agents upon the system by the law of action and reaction. Applied to physics this law reads:'Action and reaction are equal but opposite.' I have adapted the law of action and reaction to therapeutics in a somewhat circumscribed way, as follows: Every therapeutic agent affecting the human organism has a first, temporary, and a second, permanent effect. The second, lasting effect is contrary to the first, transient effect. The first, temporary effect of warmth above the body temperature, whether it be applied in the form of hot air, water, steam or light, is to draw the blood into the surface. Immediately after such an application the skin will be red and hot. The second and lasting effect, however, is that the blood recedes into the interior of the body and leaves the skin in a bloodless and enervated condition, subject to chills and predisposed to catching cold. On the other hand, the first transient effect of cold water applications upon the body as a whole, or upon any particular part, is to chill the surface and send the blood scurrying inward, leaving the skin in a chilled, bloodless condition. The lack of blood and sensation of cold are at once telegraphed over the afferent nerves to headquarters in the brain and from there the command goes forth to the nerve centres regulating the circulation; &#128;&#152;Send blood to the surface.' As a result the circulation is stirred up and accelerated throughout the system and blood rushes with force into the depleted skin, flushing the surface of the body with warm blood and restoring to it the rosy colour of health. This is the second effect. In other words, the well applied cold water treatment is followed by a good reaction, and this is accompanied by many permanent beneficial results. The drawing and eliminating first effect of hot applications, of sweat baths, etc., is at best only temporary, lasting but a few minutes, and is always followed by a weakening reaction, while the drawing and eliminating action of cold water applications, being the second, lasting effect, exerts an enduring, invigorating and tonic influence upon the skin which enables it to throw off morbid matter not merely for ten or fifteen minutes, as in the sweat bath under the influence of excessive heat, but continually by day and night.</em><br /><br /><br /><strong>11.COLD FOOT BATH WITH FRICTION</strong><br /><br />A lady came to me with many health problems. Her feet were dry, cold, and non-responsive to a pinch test. I poured about an inch of cold water out of the tap into a tray container. I got her to sit in the chair and rubbed her feet while she put them in the cold water in the sun. Eventually I got her to rub her feet against each other, so she could do this at home herself without me. Afterwards I dried her feet and rubbed them briefly with the towel. Then we went for a brief walk. Afterwards, her feet and toes were bright pink, warm, and tingling. This tingling indicates the reawakening of the peripheral nerves. Her feet were now very sensitive to the pinch test - she now winced and jumped with a gentle pinch, and jumped when I dug my nail into her toe.<br /><br />At Hippocrates Health Centre, where I work as the resident naturopath, I have found that within one week, a chronic cold feet tendency can be turned into a nice warm feet tendency in this way. This then produces a lasting change.<br /><br />However, a person should continue to receive and recreate the suppressed energy patterns from the past during this process. The stimulation of the hypothalamus by the cold water touching the feet does seem to result in a reflex increase of enthusiasm which is quite noticeable. This increased enthusiasm I would have to call a change of consciousness. With this increased enthusiasm, the people seem more willing to face their suppressed resistances from the past.<br /><br />It is a point of note, that those greats from the past with years of experience with hydrotherapy insisted that the feet should be bathed more often than the head.<br /><br />It is a Hindu tradition to bathe the body from the waist up in the morning, before the day's activities, and from the waste down in the evening, before the day's rest.<br /><br />Master Jesus bathed people's feet with cold water, and I proceed in this practise knowing it is endorsed by the highest authority.<br /><br /><strong>12.SITZ BATH / SITTING ON WATER<br /></strong><br />For a full understanding of this type of bath, in combination with and separate from the steam bath, please read Louis Kuhne's book The New Science of Healing. In this book we see excellent case histories throughout, numbering in excess of one hundred. Almost all, if not all of these, involved regression through old symptoms - healing crises. Amongst these case histories are examples of structural change of the body, spine, limbs, etc., some even comparable to the results of Body Electronics. Louis Kuhne did not write about the iris, but used a system of Facial Diagnosis, which changed its indications in reverse order as his people got well.<br /><br />Also, Henry Edwar Lahn's book Iridology: The Diagnosis from the Eye should be read. In here we find another record of tens, if not hundreds of case histories, using hydrotherapy and diet. In his book the iris changes are described, along with the people's symptoms, as they regress symptom by symptom, in reverse order, and their iris gradually returns to perfection. Lahn was particularly keen on trunk packs (a shorter version of the WSP), and on Sitting on Water (sitting on a pail of cold water for up to ten minutes with the breach and sexual organs immersed in the water, and the rest of the body dry and kept warm. This is one of the simplest of hydrotherapeutic applications, with strong derivative effects, increasing the functioning of the local eliminative organs, and producing increased blood circulation throughout the entire body, as can be seen from testimonial No.10.<br /><br />Photocopied sections from Kuhne's and Lahn's books are included later in this document.<br /><ul style="color:rgb(51, 51, 51)"><li>A young lady in her mid-twenties attended Hippocrates. She had had menstrual pain and clotting ever since menarche. She told me she had NEVER had a normal healthy period. Because she was young, strong, and fit I suggested she walk until she began to sweat, and then give herself a cold Friction Hip Bath while vigorously frictioning her abdomen until it felt warmth and pulsation. Then she walked again until her bottom was warm. She only did this once while she was at Hippocrates. A few days later she had the first normal pain-free period of her life!<br /></li><li>A lady was feeling tired all the time, looked pale, and felt bloated and nauseous every time she ate. I suggested she use the Sitz Bath I lent her, and a week later when I saw her she was pink in the cheeks, and was digesting her food much better.<br /></li><li>A young man with a history of cold hands and feet his whole life (and a warm abdomen) came to see me. I suggested he sit on water (aka Lahn) for a few minutes twice per day. After a week of this, his mother found he had warm (actually they were warmer than hers, which are usually very warm!) feet for several hours after, and all night in bed, instead of them being cold as they had his whole life!</li></ul><br /><strong>13.COLD BATH</strong><br /><br />The Cold Bath was used by Priessnitz only for those with a strong constitution, when the skin had previously sweated, or at least been heated, usually with the Blanket Pack (Whole Body Compression). Priessnitz never used cold water on skin that was already chilled. After the Cold Bath, the person would be bright pink. Always, they were instructed to leave the bath before the second sensation of chill came on. Initially, the first chill sensation disappears, as the body reacts to the cold. After varying lengths of time, depending on people's inherent vitality, a second chill occurs. Priessnitz always avoided the second chill, finding it resulted in harm. The Cold Bath was often between 5&deg;C and 10&deg;C - VERY cold. Yet Priessnitz even used water of this temperature skilfully to induce a healing crisis, as evidenced by the many case histories in R.T Claridge's books Hydropathy - The Cold Water Cure, and The Cold Water, Tepid Water and Friction Cure.<br /><br />As long as the bright pink colour was present on the skin after the Cold Bath, Priessnitz was pleased. This meant the body had reacted to the cold, similar to the pressure on the point, and dramatically increased it's circulation. When the pink reaction occurs, the skin becomes beautiful, with renewed sensitivity - more than before. If a person stays in the Cold Bath too long, then pure suppression is the result, with the skin becoming numb, the Scurf Rim growing, and the person's skin function being harmed. It is important to understand that Priessnitz was a master in this area, and carefully studied people's eyes, and their skin throughout their course of treatment.<br /><br />Certain measures were used by Priessnitz to prevent cerebral and pulmonary congestion when the Cold Bath was used. Since he only used it on those with strong constitutions, and with great discernment, and because so much harm can be done with the incorrect use of very cold water, I DO NOT RECOMMEND EXPERIMENTING WITH THIS METHOD. It is included here only to do justice to Priessnitz' work, and to show that even very cold water can be used to induce dramatic healing, when used properly. If you experiment without the experience and knowledge necessary in this area, you do so at your own risk! Don't blame me if your Scurf Rim grows, your skin loses sensitivity, you have a heart attack or a stroke!<br /><br /><strong>14.STEAM BATH</strong><br /><br />The Steam Bath has been tremendously misused through history. Overuse of external heat is harmful to the body, and the skin in particular. External heat raises the metabolism of the body's tissues. In the beginning (first few minutes), it also raises the circulation of blood to the tissues. So for the first few minutes, the delivery of oxygen and nutrition to the tissues, and the drainage of cellular metabolic waste from the tissues, is enhanced, as long as the person's heart can stand the stress! But after the first few minutes, much blood pools in the skin and extremities, and does not return to the lungs for re-oxygenation, or to the nutrient stores and the other eliminative organs. Consequently, the metabolism of the cells exceeds the circulation necessary to support it, and a disease process results.<br /><br />Many steam baths require a person to breathe their own exhalation in again, as the head is often enclosed in the steam bath. This lowers the blood's oxygen levels even faster, and results in a disease process even more quickly.<br /><br />So, why use a steam bath at all? Because some people have cold skin, and do not have the vitality to react to a Wet Sheet Pack unless the skin is preheated for a short time, to get the momentum of the blood circulation through the skin going again.<br /><br />So for optimum results with the Wet Sheet Pack, and sometimes with the Sitz and Hip Baths, a brief steam bath for a few minutes with the person's head out (so they can breathe fresh air), just enough to barely begin perspiration (open the pores of the skin), is VERY helpful before these treatments.<br /><br />Used wisely and appropriately in this way, a lot of work can be saved for the Hydropath who otherwise must expend great energy frictioning the person's skin to achieve the same pink glow achieved in a few minutes in the steam bath. I have used this method for several years, and one of my teachers (a Nature Cure and Iris Diagnosis practitioner) used this method in his practice for sixty years. Neither him or I have seen any detrimental iris changes (including growth of scurf rim) when this method was applied properly. I would like to add that my teacher would only ever privately say that all brown eyes were blue, but never in public, for fear of the consequences. His sole method of working was to use all the natural forces at his disposal to induce a healing crisis fever, so the person could get well. Having followed these guidelines to the best of my ability, I then undertook a session of Hydrotherapy, with you, in November 1997.<br /><br />You will recall that, in order to expedite a rapid increase in blood circulation, I first spent 10 minutes in a steam tent. This was then followed by my body being wrapped in a cool, moist cotton sheet, and then, in turn, being wrapped in several woollen blankets.<br /><br />For a periods of 90 minutes I concentrated on my reverse breathing technique whilst being regularly hydrated. It was during this time that I had a profound self-healing experience.<br /><br />At first I noticed that my body temperature was raised to that normally experienced during a fever - although I did not experience any discomfort as a result. I then became aware that my entire body was experiencing a rhythmic, synchronistic pulsing in time with my heartbeat, as oxygenated and nutrient-rich blood began to flow to every extremity of my body.<br /><br />As stated during orientation, thirteen years ago, during a Rugby Union game, I suffered a broken sternum (breastbone), resulting in hospitalisation and extensive bed rest. I can recall that at the time I had great difficulty in breathing, and my lung capacity never did return to its pre-injury volume. I have also suffered extreme upper, middle, and lower back pain for many years as a result of playing Rugby, with numerous chiropractic and physiotherapy sessions failing to alleviate the constant pain of same. I was also favouring my left foot that had been damaged in a motorcycle accident in my teens.<br /><br />However, soon after feeling the synchronistic pulsing in my hydrotherapy session, I experienced a thoracic reconstruction, wherein I felt my sternum and associated ribs move back into their pre-injury position. I have subsequently noticed a marked increase in my lung capacity as well as a dramatic increase in the size and flexibility of my chest and rib cage. I find it easier to breathe and no longer hold my breath when feeling stressed.<br /><br />Furthermore during the hydrotherapy session, I experienced a spontaneous spinal realignment without the aid of external pressure or spinal adjustment. I can remember lying on my back with my body gently pulsing when a series of small contractions occurred, originating at the top of my spine and slowly moving towards my pelvis, and felt several vertebrae move into their pre-injury and natural position.<br /><br />Notwithstanding, there has been a marked decrease in back pain and I have not suffered a migraine since my spontaneous spinal realignment took place.<br /><br />During my hydrotherapy session, I experienced a great deal of heat in my feet, and my left foot was throbbing. It was then that I felt a twitching sensation as the bones spontaneously re-aligned themselves to their pre-injury position.<br /><br />Subsequently, I no longer experience any pain or discomfort in my foot. However, I have yet to see wheter this shall also be the case come winter when, traditionally, the pain is at its worst.<br /><br />Towards the end of my hydrotherapy session, the dilation of the veins in my forehead marking the increase of blood flow to my head resulted in my becoming aware of my Pituitary gland being stimulated. I understand from this that my endocrine system has also benefited from the experience. Furthermore, the eczema rash on my forearms has not returned since I undertook my hydrotherapy session last November.<br /><br />You may recall that during the session that you undertook an examination of my irises and advised me that I might undergo some spontaneous healing over the next few days and that I would probably feel quite ill.<br /><br />Well, true to your word, for a period of three days after my hydrotherapy session I was bed-ridden and feverish. I expelled a large volume of both gastrointestinal and respiratory tract mucus during this fever and experienced vivid memories of my early childhood and, in particular, how ill an allergy to dairy products made me when I was young.<br /><br />I feel that I have undergone a rapid development of the spiritual and emotional aspects of my consciousness and both my wife and mother have stated that they have noticed favourable changes in my personality and outlook as a result of my studying with you.<br /><br />It is my considered opinion that the use of Holistic Self-Healing principals, and in particular hydrotherapy under your direction, has had a lasting and beneficial influence on my personal health and wellbeing.
